BESR 8.0.3 Doesnt See Hard Drives: Dell Poweredge 2970
Has anyone come accross the following issue. I tried to apply an image created with BESR onto a new dell server: (Poweredge 2970) Perc 5/i Raid 10 machine but SRD doesnt see the hard drives. Initially I figured it was the driver for the perc 5/i, so I just loaded the driver but that didnt work.
I have created two partitions on the machine and loaded windows server 2003 on the machine. Installed BESR 8.03 and created a recovery disk .iso for the machine and tried to boot that version of the recovery disk. Still no hard drives. Since windows 2003 server is on the machine and I have two partitions, I dont see why the SRD wont see the drives. I had read articles claiming it was because the raid configuration needed to be setup, but since I have installed Windows 2003 and have two partitions I dont think blowing away the raid again and starting from scratch will help.
I am having some concerns due to BESR is the solution we use for our Disaster recovery and this makes me guestion our approach. Has anyone had this issue and offer any help in resolving this issue.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Since you can't see the drives it very likely a driver issue. What OS was the driver you loaded for? It needs to be for Windows Vista since the SRD use Vista PE as its environment. In some cases Server 2008 drivers may also work.
I loaded the driver for Windows 2003 server due to the fact that I was trying to use the SRD image that I created specifically for the machine. I will try the driver for Windows 2008 server, but I am not sure if there is a driver for Vista..but I will look.
I will let you know what I come up with.
Thanks,

I have tried the Windows Server 2008 driver but it didnt work. I dont think that I can get a Vista driver for a poweredge server.........seems odd that I need a vista driver for a server that was never designed to run vista.
I will try and install the partitions again on the server and then try the Windows 2008 Server Driver. I have tried drivers for Win 2003 server, Win 2003 adv server, Windows 2008 server and not a single one worked.
Off to try this again....

I now have tried the following:
Completely deleted and resetup the raid virtual disk. Installed Windows 2003 server and tried booting the the recovery CD. I have tried every driver that dell offers including drivers that arent supported such as a vista driver for a $9K server, much thanks to the support techs at dell. Windows installed on the machine fine BESR installs on the os but you cannot get the SRD to see the hard drives. I have tried the SRD from the fileconnect site and also created a Recovery Disk image .iso from the application and still not hard drivers visible from SRD.
I have concerns about BESR not being a true bare metal recovery solution, but I will put those fears to rest for the time being while I am searching for a venue to get this resolved.
Is anyone using a newer version of BESR than 8.03 server...maybe that is my problem. I have tried 8.0 8.03 and 7.0...none of those work.

Do you get the same symptom using the 2k8 driver in BESR 8.5 SRD, you can download the CD from http://www.symantec.com/business/products/family.jsp?familyid=backupexec trialware section
