This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi all,

I was wondering if I can install BESR manager on the same server than BESR client. In other words, I have only one server that fits the requirement for the manager, but I also need to backup this server using BESR...

thanks

Christian

How many servers are you attempting to backup and manage using Backup Exec System Recovery? You may install BESRm and BESR on the same server, typically with no issue. However you can manually add multiple servers to one instance of BESR without having to use BESRm.

Hi Joseph,

thx for the quick reply. I have 4 servers that I need to backup. I will add a fifth one later this year. As I bought the BESR starter pack, I have a licence for the manager included and I though it was mandatory to use it in order to manage them all in one place.

I would recommend that you do not install manager in your environment. If you are planning on managing only a handful of servers, it is much easier to manage them individually through a single UI of the Backup Exec System Recovery console. If you would like the additional reporting options that are allowed in manager, it is recommended to put the manager on a server that is not currently running another application which uses Tomcat5 (such as Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager).

If you have the starter pack, that means you also received a license for the Granular Restore Option, correct? This should be installed on any server that is not running Exchange, but is running an instance of Backup Exec System Recovery. It is also required to have Outlook installed on the server running Granular Restore Option.

I won't bother with the manager then.

And Yes, I have the granular option, and it's already installed on my sharepoint (wss3.0) server along with outlook.

Thank you very much for the advice Jon !
