BESR 8.5/2010 Backup Snapshots Questions
I am getting these errors upon trying to back up with BESR 8.5.5:
Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: Drive Backup of (C:\), Apps (D:\). Error E7D1001F: Unable to write to file. Error EBAB03F1: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service. Error E7D1001F: Unable to write to file.

I found but lost a forum thread which suggested that this error could occur because not enough slack space exists for BESR's creation of a snapshot of the to-be-backed-up drive during its backup process.
I looked and saw today that BESR was trying to create a 47 GB backup on a drive with only 42 GB free space.
Is it true that BESR requires as much slack space on the drive as there is data/files to back up??
If so, is it possible to define within BESR where this snapshot should live/exist?? Perhaps on another volume with more free space??
We're presently working on freeing up space on the drive in question.
Thank you, Tom

The rule of thumb is that you
The rule of thumb is that you need approx 24% of the total volume size as free space for the snapshot. I say approx because it does depend on the amount of file activity taking place during the backup.
Also, I can see from your post that you are backing up C and D volumes in the same job. Why not try splitting them into separate jobs - this might help to narrow down if this problem really is to do with lack of free disk space.

Separate jobs??
If I have separate jobs does that make the backups 'out of sync'??
We freed up disk space on D: and that fixed things.
Thank you for the 25% rule.
The C: drive is very small, about 14 GB becoming a 6-7 GB backup file size.
Is it required that the snapshot space be on the same disk that's being backed up??
Thank you, Tom
If this is an Exchange server
If this is an Exchange server and you are using the granular restore option, you must backup all volumes that contain exchange data together. However, it was only a suggestion to see if this helped to narrow down the problem - it seems as though you have already identified the issue.
Yes, the snapshot will be placed on the volume that is being backed up.
