BESR Cold Image (Dell PowerEdge) with Restore anywere

Hello,
Is it possible to make a Cold image of a server with the restore anywere option, and restore it to a new hardware?
or is the restore anywere option only available when i install the software on the server?

Got it!!!

The answer is "yes", provided you're not using the trial version.

  • Boot with the Restore CD.
  • Once booted, select the option to create a backup.
  • Create your image. You'll notice there is no option or checkbox to enable "Restore Anywhere" because any image created can be restored to different hardware if needed.
  • Now boot the disk on your destination computer where you would like to restore the image.
  • When following the steps, an optional checkbox will be available named "Use Restore Anywhere Option", check that box.

Once the restore completes and you reboot, Windows Setup should begin to run, detecting your new hardware and applying drivers. For reference once more, the Restore Anywhere Option is only available to enable when restoring, so in essense, every image created using BESR is technically restorable to different hardware.
