There are certain requirements and pre-requisites to install Symantec Antivirus for Linux
1. Symantec AntiVirus requires a specific kernel on the system before installing Symantec AutoProtect package or otherwise you should compile your own kernel with our AutoProtect to ensure it will function properly. 2. Symantec Java LiveUpdate requires Sun Java VM (Virtual Machine ) version 1.4 or above to ensure LiveUpdate works correctly.
3. Make sure you install JVM on usr/java folder, if its not already installed on the system.
4. Newer Java VM versions include a newer version of JCE (Java Cryptography Extension), which currently does not support Symantec Antivirus for Linux.
5. To install the proper version of JCE, please download and install the attached file.
Instructions to install JCE:
(i) Unzip the attached file to find 2 file, local_policy.jar and US_export_policy.jar files
(ii) Now copy these files to ../java/jre1.(version number installed)/lib/security folder
(iii) Finally select packages according to your Linux distribution, install required modules of Symantec Antivirus for Linux for your environment
