Best Practices for implementating Brightmail backups

Created: 18 Oct 2013 | 3 comments

Hello,

First time posting here. I hope I've found the right place.

Does Symantec have a best practices recommendation for backing up Brightmail databases and other settings?

Our configuration resides on Symantec provided Virtual Machines in VMWare. One VM for incoming and one for outgoing mail. I've tried looking around via Symantec.com and google and could not find any recommended backup confgurations/schedules/whatever.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Greetings,

A backup of your SMG can be performed by going to Administration -> Version -> Backup -> Backup Now.  It should be noted that a backup can only be restored to the same version from which it was taken.  For example, a backup of SMG 10.0.1 can only be restored to a SMG running 10.0.1.

Right,

My question is does Symantec have a recommended backup schedule? Daily? weekly? Type of backup?

Thanks,

Colin

Greetings,

A backup schedule should be created based on the needs of your business.  As a result Symantec does not have any recommendations as to the frequency at which backups should be taken.

I hope this answers your question.
