Best Way of Accessing Multiple Backup Execs from desktop PC?
Hello!
This is my first post and I am driven to do this by a time consuming and annoying task I am currently doing!
Basically me and a few other people take it in turns to check backup successes from the previous night and inventory the new tapes. The usual process is to use NetOp or Dameware or Remote Desktop to jump from server to server remotely from our desktop PC and check/do what we need to on each Backup Exec. We speed this process up slightly by using the 'Connect To Media Server...' option within Backup Exec so that we can access multiple Backup Execs from one server. The problem is that we run 2 different versions of Backup Exec (v10 and v8.6) and this, along with other mystery connection issues, means that we can't see all the Backup Execs from one server.
What I would like is a tool on my desktop PC that allows me to connect to any instance of Backup Exec on the network or, even better, be able to write a report that automatically generates every morning with details of all the backups that ran on all the servers?
I'm pretty novice with Backup Exec so any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Steven Collings

Hi Steven,
I'm new at this myself so you probably want to check this in your own environment :)
In "Reports" if you right-click a job name you get an option for "New Report Job". This allows you to schedule report jobs to run and notifications to be sent. You can pick and choose email addresses to deliver the report to. There may be something here you can find useful.
The problem with this is that you're going to have to do this on each server and you'll get x amount of reports depending on the number of servers you have. You could ease the pain with this by delivering each server's reports to different employees and spreading the work.
Obviously, this wont help with your inventory question tho...
I'll be having a play with this tonight - the Overnight Summary report looks useful to me :)
Andy.
Well the first thing that comes to mind is the CASO option for BE10. It costs money though, and there was no CASO option for BE8.6
This isn't really my area of expertise though.
