best way to backup a big image data from EMC Centera
Created: 07 Jan 2013 | 2 comments
We have an EMC Centera with big hospital image data around $80TB needs to be backed up ONCE with Symantec NBU 7.1. What is the best way we can do that? NDMP or something else?
thanks,

EMC Cenera is listed in NetBackup 6.5 Hardware Compatibility List, but disappeared in NetBackup 7.x HCL. I think NDMP with Centera is not supported in 7.x.
It is better to talk with EMC what is the best way to protect Centera's contents keeping its consistency.

Typically Centerra folks will use redundancy within the cube, keeping multiple copies within it. Or replicate it to a 2nd cube. You can host your own, or use a service of which there are a number of vendors that offer Centerra repl services. DRSystems rings a bell off the top of head.
Outside of that backing up a centerra is a PITA!
There is an online portal, save yourself the long hold times. Create ticket online, then call in with ticket # in hand :-) http://mysupport.symantec.com "We backup data to restore, we don't backup data just to back it up."
