BEX 10d sp4 takes forever to backup 22gbs of data

I have a dell server  PE840, windows sbs 2003  sp2,  2 gb of ram. Any troubleshooting technics available to me to help with the slow backups takes about 18 hours to backup 22 gbs of data. Tape drive: Dell powervault 100T DAT72 tapes

2.8ghz pentium d cpu

Well DAT is a slower

Well DAT is a slower technology than some others, but that does appear a bit on the slow side.
How is the DAT loader attached to the server?
What sort of data are you backing up? Files? If so, are there lots of small files?
What sort of backup rates are you seeing during the backup?
Is this server just backing up itself?
