  • 1.  Blackberry support in Symantec DLP - Network Prevent for Email.

We have Symantec DLP Suite deployed and implemented in one of our corporate client network. Client wants to have data loss prevention implemented on Blackberry handheld and mobile devices. We believe that previously in earlier version of DLP, we did have some support for blackberry sets in DLP Network Prevent for Mobile component but with  current version of DLP Mobile only iOS platform is supported.

I would appreciate if some one can please suggest or recommend some alternate to this requirement as how we can protect data on BlackBerry devices using Symantec DLP (Network Prevent for Email).

    Hello,

is it for corporate or personal blackberry ?

If it is corporate blackberry and depending on how blackberry infrastructure and email system is implemented, but for most of my customer (in europe) there was no issue as blackberry is going through same infrastructure as exchange system, i was always able to monitor blackberry email using same DLP servers as the one use for exchange email.  You dont have same capabilities as using mobile system, but you are able to do monitoring (and may be prevent i dont remember if i try to do it once) of all blackberry email.

     Regards.

As mentioned above if this is using a BES there is a lot you can manage through the BES where it comes to DLP.

As noted above DLP for Mobile does not support Blackberry however the email will go through your corporate mail system and then flow through Network PRevent for Email if you have it in place and then block email.

There are other things you might get as well through the BES.  The last time I worked w/ DLP and BES I was catching web traffic through the BES as well so Network Prevent for Web could be used for blocking the web traffic (not quite sure how that was setup but it can be setup)
