Please unconfigure BMR master server using "bmrsetupmaster -undo" and try bmrsetupmaster again.

If failed again, consider to try rebuild procedures described as Option 2 in this technote.

Considering you are trying to setup bmr fresh and there are no bmr backups taken before on this master server. Then try doing below to re-setup bmr database.

bmrsetupmaster -redo

If this works successfully then it will start bmrd daemon as well on your master server.

If fails, provide /usr/openv/logs/bmrsetup logs with debuglevel set to 6 in nblog.conf file.

I notice one thing as per mentioned in Option 2

Make a copy of the /usr/openv/var/global/databases.conf file and remove the initialization for BMRDB from within the /usr/openv/var/global/databases.conf file.

This line will need to be removed,
"/usr/openv/db/data/BMRDB.db" -n BMRDB

"/usr/openv/db/data/BMRDB.db" -n BMRDB this line was not there in /usr/openv/var/global/databases.conf file   initially.

I performed the rebuild procedures described as Option 2 in this technote.

I noticed one thing while performing this step

Make a copy of the /usr/openv/var/global/databases.conf file and remove the initialization for BMRDB from within the /usr/openv/var/global/databases.conf file. This line will need to be removed,
"/usr/openv/db/data/BMRDB.db" -n BMRDB

The following line ""/usr/openv/db/data/BMRDB.db" -n BMRDB" was not available in databases.conf file.

This is weird.

Is it same NB master+EMM server?

Do you see any issue with NBDB related operations?

BMR setup master process is failing to contact database service for creating its db instance here. This is very basic and can happen if tried setting up bmr on non-nb_master host.

I don't find any problems, while taking normal backups .

I noticed something, while adding following line  "/usr/openv/db/data/BMRDB.db" -n BMRDB in  /usr/openv/var/global/databases.conf file

and restarting the NBU process, following daemons are failing.

nbrb,nbemm,nbaudit,nbpem,nbevtmgr.

When I remove that particular line from databases.conf file, the above mentioned processes are running

Why do you edit database.conf? Are there any other files you have edited?

Have you already tried suggestions given here? If not, stop NetBackup, recover edited file as they were, restart NetBackup, then try "bmrsetupmaster -undo". 

Ok. IMO, the behavior you observed is a bug in nbemm where db connection drops in case any db settings are changed. I have seen this problem.

But I am wondering why BMR DB instance is not getting registered.

BTW do not change /usr/openv/var/global/databases.conf manually. In case you have done before revert it back; restart NBU services and run "bmrsetupmaster -redo".

Also try bmrsetupmaster -redo after restarting the NB server machine. We never know if something is wrong with current loaded system.

I had the backup of the files before, and I have reverted back everything.

even after running the bmrsetupmaster -redo I am getting error Failed to setup BMR Master Server

Also I have noted that bmrd process failed to start

Did you try rebooting your server after reverting the files and before running "bmrsetupmaster -redo". It would look illogical but I would recommend to restart the box once to clean any process/es in malfunction mode. I am about sure that this issue is around NB Sybase server where DB configuration changes are making impact.

Recommendation is to revert all changes to exact orignal one that comes with NB installation; reboot box; make sure NB is functional; remove any BMR* files present inside /usr/openv/db/data folder and then do "bmrsetupmaster -redo".

2. bmrsetup debug level 6 log file.
