what is your WIndows version?
please check in Master server host porprties ---> Master server--> client attributes ---> <client name>
VSS is slected.
and also in client
check the output of below command
vss list writers
1-Win 2003
2-VSS is seleted.
3:-C:\>vssadmin list providers
what about vssadmin list writers? Anything unstable or failed will need the server re-booting to work again
Lots of VSS hotfixes for 2003 so worth googling for MS KB's to find the latest rollup package for 2003 which will no doubt help

Are you trying to do BMR backup for your Master server? This is NOT supported...

Thanks for response.
1-Pls let me know where is it not supported(BMR of Master)?
2-I was trying to take clent backup first when it got failed due to above error then I tried to install it to take Master BMR for troubleshooting?
I had the same issue with clients that had StorNext (Quantum's software) client. Have you this kind of product installed on your client ?
Thanks, No Nothing like that...............
That client wasn't a Domain Controller was it? If it was you would need the NetBackup Client Service setting to use a full AD Admin account
If not then also check to see if that client has any exclusions set - if using ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES but with an exclusion it could cause this type of failure
Also check that the Shadow Copy Service is not disabled on the client
If i think of anything lese will come back to you ...

Thanks for the reply.
I checked if i disable both VSS and VSP still i get the same error. I dont know what is wrong.
If i am not mistaken it has been since i upgraded client to 6.5.6
See BMR Admin Guide.
Try to use Windows Backup to perform backup of SCC to local disk.
Please upgrade your environment to NBU 7.5.0.4 or 7.5.0.5 - NBU 6.5 is no longer supported plus lots of fixes for SCC backup since NBU 7.1.x.

Prefer 7.5.0.4 please, some people have issues with 7.5.0.5 (https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/big...)
