Bonnes Pratiques BE 2010 R3

Created: 09 Oct 2012 | 13 comments

bonjour,

- Full journaliere les LMMJ conservée 2 semaines -> 8 K7 utilisées

Thank you for response Donald,

now , i testing what you indicate to me

you think it is best to first save to disk and then to tape ?

I remind you that we have a library of 24 LTO5 tapes

The easier way of doing this would be to set 3 different media sets.

1. Media Set A (Keep data for 2 weeks) = overwrite protection period 2 weeks.

2. Media Set B (Keep data for 10 weeks) = overwrite protection period 10 weeks.

3. Meda Set C (Keep data for 3 Years) = overwrite protection period 3 Years.

If you are not using the same Tape for multiple backup jobs then, on all the Media Sets above, set the value for Append to "as minimum as you can"

After this is done, in the job properties, use the corresponding media sets

Thank you, it is clearer for me now.

I want to ask you another question:

I want to store some of these tapes on another site.

Can we automate ejecting the tape after backup ?

Is there a utility to view the physical location of tapes in the library ?

There is Alainta,

Auto eject can be selected when creating or editing a job under the device and media section- near the bottom of the window you should see a check box - eject media after job completes. You can view the location of the tapes by clicking the devices tab and browsing the tape library

thank you it works well for jobs

but ejecting the tape does not running despite the option checked in the job.

I do not know if my dell library TL 2000 is compatible with BE 2010R3

Jaydeep S's picture

It looks like its supported. Does the robotic Library have a mail solt or  I/O tray for ejecting tapes?

In Windows device manager look for the medium changer. Verify it this is using OEM drivers. Symantec recomends to use Microsoft Drivers for this. Once the Microsoft drivers are installed it shows up a an unknown medium changer.

i have microsoft driver ver 6.1.7601.17514 and it shows up as an unknown medium changer
