  • 1.  Boot from CD and Ghostcast is greyed out

    Posted May 19, 2006 12:58 PM
    Hello All,

I am stumped. I successfully create two disks on Ghost 8.2 and can multicast - image create / restore no problem. I wanted to boot from CD with the contents of the floppies. I get the CD to boot from the two complied files that are a compilation of the boot floppy and I added Ghost.EXE and INI to the CD as well.

It loads all the NDIS drivers and CD driver successfully, loads GHOST.EXE from aspecified path on the CD and then the options Peer to peer and Ghost cast options are grey. I am baffled to how the floppy disks works and then same contents dont. I assume it cant see the disks which are SCSI. But why does it work when the two floppy config boots? Are there some settings or files I am missing?

    Appreciate some insight.

    Rich

It sounds like the packet drivers are not loading for some reason. Like you, i'm not sure why the wont when they worked on the floppies.

As Chris said, it seems that somehow your network driver is not loaded. How did you create CD? since your floppy disks were working ok, there might be something wrong with your CD. There is a thread in this forum about creating bootable CD.

First, I created the floppy with the right drivers. Made a Bootable CD with that floppy. Made the CD including the 2 files Ghost creates which is the bootable floppy in the 2 file format. Then copied Ghost.exe to that cd rom and burned it.

I step throught the config and auto and everything loads including the NDIS drivers successfully.

I change to the cd drive in this case F. And launch Ghost.exe.

The packet initialization never takes place but the EXE loads and those 2 functions are greyed out.

So why on floppy does it work and not on CD.

This is v 8.2 and I cannot believe how laborous it is to make this work.

This should be a bunt in my opinion.

    Again, any suggestions are appreicated.

Hello - I had the same problem while building a multi-nic boot cd for ghost. I found after pulling my hair out that the reason they are greyed out is that the autoexec was not calling netbind.com. Once I set that in there, it worked like a charm!

I found this excellent, clear site, and booting from CD and multicasting now works fine

    Please Help.
I've been at this for a week now, can't seem to get anywhere.

I followed the above link but I get hung up at the Autoexec.bat step, When i make my disks I don't have an autoexec.bat file on them.

I can boot into Ghost.exe with these boot disks but ghostcast is grayed out.

Where i used to work before they had a Multi-Nic Ghost CD that during the boot process it came up with a list of NICs and you would have to press that number.
I'd like to make one of these for my new office. I emailed a friend at my old job asking for an .iso of that CD but i'm not sure if i'll get it.

Any help here would be apprecaited.

I'd like eventually to move to a network booted ghost session, but want to start with what I know - CDs, and move to network after.

    Thanks!
    Andrew
