Bootguard defaulting to Keyboard

Created: 07 Nov 2012 • Updated: 12 Nov 2012 | 5 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

This may be a long shot as it's probably user error, but has anyone come across an issue where Bootguard defaults to Keyboard instead of Continue so after the user has entered their passphrase and presses Enter/Return they get a keyboard layout option instead?

The user is quite a distance away, so it's difficult to see for myself, but they insist Keyboard is selected everytime they turn their laptop on.

Just to clarify, Bootguard is set to request for a passphrase only, no domain login, no SSO etc, so in the bottom right is Continue, Advanced, Bypass and Keyboard (going off memory).

I've never heard of this happening, so when the user begins to type their password in its going to keyboard select when they press enter? Instead of just carrying on? hmm.....

Apparently so. We got as far as them confirming that Keyboard was highlighted after typing their password, so unless they're pressing down Down arrow as part of their password I can't imagine how or why. Been waiting for her to call back as she was going home at the time of the call, so figured I'd check here in the meantime.

Down or Tab indeed, but it seems very unlikely to be doing that, maybe try another keyboard?

Well I've not heard back from the user regarding the issue, so I'm going to go with user error ;)

Apparently she has called regarding something completely different, which would suggest she's getting passed Bootguard at least. Bit strange if she was pressing down though... who knows.

She could have had a stuck key on the keyboard I suppose...
