Hi All,

Using bootguard (PGP 10.1.0, build 860) on a Lenovo Laptop and an external USB UK keyboard (With UK specified in the keyboard language) I have noticed that the backslash (\) and the hash keys (#) are swapped over, the rest of the keyboard assignments are accurate except for these two. The internal laptop keyboard assignments are fine, it's just when used externally. Is there a solution for this anywhere?

I have tried this on a number of different models of laptop and external keyboards with the same result, It certainly appears to be a bug with the software. I have scanned the release notes of later versions of the software to see if the issue has been resolved but I haven't seen it yet. Woudl anyone be able to tell me if this is resolved in later version or if there is a fix/workaround for this? Thanks. :-)

In BootGuard you can change

In BootGuard you can change keyboard language, you should try different layouts and see if those symbols got fixed.

Hi, Thanks for your reply - I

Hi,

Thanks for your reply - I have tried different languages but the key assignments differ with the hash and backslash keys between the external and internal keyboard with every language I have tried.

As a last option, I would

As a last option, I would look for keyboard or docked options in BIOS settings

Unfortunately there is no

Unfortunately there is no dock options in the BIOS of any of the machines I have tested  - I have tested this with multiple combinations of hardware and software and the only common element is PGP 10.1.0, build 860. I am assuming that this is not a known issue and as such wouldn't be fixed in 10.2? Is there any way this can be confirmed? It would be tricky for me to get hold of 10.2 just for a test. Thanks.

I don't know if you would

I don't know if you would have any difficulty downloading the Trialware and using it to test.

The trialware is easy to

The trialware is easy to obtain but doesn't support full disk encryption in trial mode without purchasing a license. Without full disk encryption I will not be able to test the bootguard issue..

The trialware is the same

The trialware is the same software package as the licensed package - it is only the license used that determines which features are active.

JamHamster, You can ask

JamHamster,

You can ask licensing team to upgrade your current license to 10.2. That way you will be able to test this. Let them know you will be still using 10.1.

License renewal:
https://renewals.symantec.com/renewals/application...

I hope it helps.

Can you tell me if Symantec

Can you tell me if Symantec are already aware of the swapped key issue? In the meantime I will be gaining 10.2 just for the tests and will update this area accordingly. Thanks.

Hi, I am guessing that this

Hi, I am guessing that this is not a known issue as I have completed my tests and this issue is definitively down to PGP. I have installed and configured this on 10.2.0 (Build 2233) with the same result. I will be raising a support case with Symantec to find a resolution for this. Thanks.

My apologies, my diagnosis

My apologies, my diagnosis was flawed - I have found a combination of hardware where the keys are not swapped on an external keyboard. I am now trying to narrow this down to a particular chipset. Thanks.

Found the issue...

Hi,

I have found the issue, it only appears on specific hardware (Lenovo) with partiular BIOS Revisions:

(Fix) Fixed an issue where some keys of the external USB keyboard will not work correctly on PBE of McAfee Endpoint Encryption software.

Unfortunately, since upgrading the BIOS on a Lenovo x220 to resolve the issue, the laptop will not boot (Bootguard crashed with graphical corruption on the lower half of the screen and is now stuck on 'Initializing Bootloader' - Identical to the SandyBridge issue)

I have used the rescue disks but they are unable to detect the installation. I will keep on it and update this area.
