  • 1.  Brightmail 9.5 gets slower over time

    Posted Sep 08, 2011 09:40 AM

Running the latest updates to Brightmail 9.5, which was installed from the previousl version VMware image then upgraded to 9.5.

I've noticed that as days pass since reboot, this box gets slower and slower to the point that the web admin takes up to 2 minutes to go from page to page.

Rebooting it resolves the problem, but then again it gets slower and slower of the days.

Anyone else see this issue?   Is there a known fix?

    Hi PrimeInc,

we don't have this issue after upgrade the to 9.5.1-6. Did you upgrade all your scanners and control Centers to the latest release?  It's difficult to have a suggestion, because we don't know your deployment. How many scanners do you have? How many Traffic do you have? What about your log setting's? There are so many settings which will have influense to your system. Did you change something else with the upgrade?

some more information will be fine. thank you.

This is a single stand alone install with everything on one box.   We have another single stand alone install in the DMZ.   They are not tied together in any way other than they communicate to each other using SMTP.   Both exhibit this problem of getting slower over time.

We do have logging enabled.  However, I'm unclear on why my log settings would be the cause when a reboot speeds it back up.   The logs do not purge at reboot.   Perhaps there is a known issue, though?

We send about 20,000 emails through this setup daily.   AV is enabled.  There are a few content filter rules.  Anti Spam is not enabled, as that is done by Symantec Cloud.

If the delay you are seeing only in the Web GUI, and mail delivery is not impacted, the issue(s) are likely to be shown in the brightmaillog.log

This log is for the web interface and should indicate possible causes.

Instead of rebooting the entire image, accessing the console (via ssh) and restarting the control center service should also correct web related performance issues.

If the brightmaillog.log does not contain any detail that is pertinent, I suggest increasing the logging level of the control center to information.

FYI. Since applying the latest version(9.5.2-3), I have been up a week without the CPU at 100% or GUI slowness. This appears to be fixed for us. Thanks!
