  • 1.  Brightmail Gateway - User can not login to view quarantine

    Posted Jan 20, 2010 04:12 AM
    Hi

I have installed Brightmail Gateway, now all other things are working fine, but end users can not login to check quarantine.

    - LDAP synchronization is set up and Success
    - I have remove check mark from Spam - Quarantine Settings - "Administrator-only Quarantine (LDAP not required)
    - I have searched user from Administration - Find User - and it gives user is under Default Group
    - I have enabled to Default Group following, Enable end user settings for this group, create personal good and bad senders, specify language settings

Still when user trys to logon it gives error "Invalid user name or password. Please try again."

Address where users try to login is

    https://name.domain.com:41443/brightmail

    What I have done wrong?

You need to add an LDAP authentication server for your users to be able to log in to their quarantine. Otherwise we won't know their passwords.

As JDavis pointed out, an Authentication source should be chosen when setting up the LDAP Source to use End User Quarantine feature, but if you have already done that and users are still not able to login, then please take a look at the following KB article:

So it seems like the suggestion provided earlier was the "solution" to your original issue, but now you are facing a new issue.

Can you provide the errors that you are seeing in the BrightmailLog.log when a users tries to login to the qurarantine?  A sceenshot of your ldap setup page would be useful as well?

If you have not changed any LDAP or quarantine related settings in Symantec Brightmail Gateway (SBG), then I am wondering the problem may be related to your network infrastructure.  Couple of things to check:

    a) If you configured LDAP source using hostname, make sure the DNS resolution is working

    b) If there is a firewall between SBG Control Center and your LDAP server, make sure the ports are still open for LDAP server access from SBG

    c) Is your LDAP server up and running and responding to queries?

If you are seeing the "Access Denied" error shown below in the Control Center when any end user tries to login...

    QuarantineAccessDenied.png

...then please make sure that you have the "Administrator-only Quarantine (LDAP not required)" option UNCHECKED on Quarantine Settings (Spam > Quarantine Settings) page as shown below:

    EndUserQuarantine.png

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Miika,

If any of the suggestions helped resolve your issue, can you please mark it as the Solution?

    Thanks
