Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade our brightmail scanners from version 9.5.3.3 to the latest 10.0.0.7

Just have a couple of questions,

Does anyone have a rough time of when this completes? Obviously I'll be doing the control centre first then the scanners (We have two) after? I just want to plan the best time for this...

Also if i restrict mail flow while I do this and flush the queues, will spam be delivered to users inboxes for a period while it's updating?

Thanks in advance,

Hello,

About your question, it's up to your bandwith and Brightmail update servers bandwith limits. It may change for different countries for different times.

But in my experiences it takes 1-2 hours for downloading the new version and after downloading upgrading takes 10-15 minutes maximum.

Also you have a chance to first download the files and install it anytime you want.

You can do this from interface (Administration/Configuration/Version) and also you can do that easily from SSH with the "update download" and "update install" command anytime after you download it.

In Turkey with my experiences, i told customer to first full backup the system then run "update download" command before off hours, after that i run the "update install" command in the evening :)

You're correct about the prevelance of upgrade, it's better to first upgrade CC and then scanners.

In the upgrading process even you're not stop the mail flow,Brightmail keep continue to process emails(scanning, routing, quarantine, end user mails etc.) till system reboots.

So when you stop the mail flow and if end user quarantine report time conflicts with that time, your reports will be sending.also.
