  • 1.  Broadcom NIC and NEMM errors

I'm having a lot of trouble with the Dell D630 (broadcom NIC 57xx) laptops and trying to boot to PXE. it tries to load the boot image and then gets the error "extended memory blocks have been destroyed.". I've tried a few different versions of the NDIS driver. I've tried the fix listed in article ID 37913 (I was using the FreeDOS files and switched to the MS-DOS files and regenerated the boot file). Still no help. I've tried the regular DOS (UNDI) boot option - same error. THe Linux boot option doesn't even connect to the server. I've checked the BIOS and made sure that the "flash cache module" is disabled and "sata operation" is set to "ata" (this has caused problems in the past). I've also added the "device=emm386.exe nomovexbda" in the config.sys file of the boot image (this worked for earlier version of the D630).

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance. Jim

I've been using WinPE with the D630 we have here. Never could find a NIC driver that would work for DOS. Do you have WinPE to try?

I don't have WinPE, but if it's my only alternative, I will have to get it.

If you have a volume license for Windows with Microsoft you can get it for free.

We have Microsoft Volume licenses, but I can't find it anywhere in the MVLS site. I think I read somewhere that you have to have SA. I've got a call into the Micrososft licensing rep to findout how I can get it. Thanks.

We had to call to get it. Seems like they don't make it easily available.

Thanks for the advice. I now have the WinPE pre-iinstall files loaded in Altiris. I get a Blue Screen when WinPE loads to run a job. When building the boot file, did you use theoption to autodetect the NIC?
Thanks again for all your help.

Server reboot fixed the imaging problem for the D630. Don't know why they wouldn't work previously, but was able to image other hardware ok!

Glad that a reboot fixed it.
