  • 1.  BUG: add user defined folder or file exeptions

    Posted May 26, 2010 07:22 AM
    Greetings Symantec,

after upgrading from SEP 11.0.5 to 11.0.6a we're facing problems to create user defined scan exeptions for folders and files.
The corresponding fields are still available but no selection window appears on click of one of these 2 options (knows risks and file extensions could be configured successfully).

The only way to define exeptions now is to complete groups per SEPM  and that implies an complete rework of the policies.

Some details of the systems affected:

OS => Windows 7 Enterprise & Ultimate 64bit German (with latest updates via WSUS)
Because PCs & Notebooks are both affected the problem seems to be hardware independet.

We would be pleased to hear from any Symantec support employee ;-)

Anybody else here with that kind of problem?

Please leave a line if you need any fourther information.

    Thanks

    Ralf

    Hello Prachand,

    thanks for your fast response!

I (and I think many other customers too) would be pleased if symantec would update the article and add the actual SEP version and affected OS.

The expected fix for the above mentioned issue is in SEP RU6 MP1. As of now we don't have any date for the release of this version.

You can subscribe for the Email Bulletin Service and you will be notofied of any release which we release. Below is the link to subscribe for the Email Bulletin Service

    Hi Ralf,

Have exactly the same issue but with a standalone install to clean 2008 R2 Server.

I originally intended a minimal install only Antivirus and Antispyware

After fighting with it for hours and hours have found I had to install Proactive Threat Protection as well.

But it didn't end there to add a user defined file or folder exception I found that I had to click Add Truscan Proactive Threat Scan Exception FIRST, and a file selection window comes up, I cancelled (as I didn't want to add a Proactive Exception) after doing this could use add Security Risk Expections for file and folders with the file/folder selection windows coming up no problems.

However If I try to add file and folder Security Exceptions BEFORE an attempt to add a Proactive Exception the selection window will not come up at all for either and I would have to close the Endpoint Security window and open it again and follow the above proceedure attempting to add a proactive exception FIRST.

Hope this helps, would be interested to see if you have the same results.

Uninstalled rebooted and installed again Minimal install only Antivirus and Anti Spyware with no Proactive Threat Protection.

Seems didn't need Proactive Threat Protection after all as the Add Truscan Proactive threat Protection exception still there. But still needed to attempt to add Proactive Threat Protection Exception BEFORE trying to Add file and folder exceptions.

    Just Weird...

    Hi mattzp!

Thanks for the information of your workaround.

I can confirm that helped me to get the file/folder selection window.

    Thanks for that great tip!

Lets hope Symantec will release the MP1 soon.
