byte count decreases during backup

Created: 03 Jul 2012 | 2 comments

This has happened once and i thought its was just a one off thing but its happening again

I recently just configured backup to disk (GFS) to Nas using backup exec 2010 R3. I was running a full backup yesterday and by the time i left work, it was up to around 300GB. I came back this morning and its still backing up but this time, its around 190GB. No backup failure and no Cancellation. This happened the first time the backup exec was configured and i could not understand why and i though i was the one seeing things but its happening again.

What do you see in the application and system event log and the alerts in BE? What does the current job activity show? Maybe you could trying running http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO23073 with all checkboxes selected. Post an excerpt from this tool after running it for a while and watch for lines with beremote.

The only error in the application event log is Volume shadow copy error event ID 12289. Not sure if this is related to the backup job. The backup job completes but it takes twice the time its meant to complete. I am new to Raid technologies as the NAS is cofigured with RAID 1. I am not sure if Backup exec copying the files to the two disk one after the other. My alerts are just the databse maintanance information and IDR full backup Succcess along with job completed
