If you have selected a specific date of 29th only then it can only "start" on 29th, but as with all backups it can continue running on 30th as long as it has started

If you select the "allow retries after run day" on the first schedule tab then if it failed on 29th it could re-try during the open window on 30th

Hope this helps

I havent selected "allow retries after run day" .If i havent seleced 30th.Will backup window of 30th will matter?

Mark_Solutions's picture

If you have not selected the retries option then the fact you have the window crossing midnight will make no difference - jobs will only strart on 29th

So if any are submitted to the queue but not have the chance to start to run until after midnight (as they are waiting for a device to be free for example) then they will fail having missed their backup window

lets suppose if a backup job starts at 11.55 and did not get device till 12 and dates are checked for 29 th August only.Backup will fail with 196.but if i select,29 th and 30 th what in that case?

Calendar based scheduling has been known to be unreliable with windows crossing midnight. Some list members will probably disagree with me, but this has been my personal experience.

The admin guide also warns against it:

"Daily windows are taken into account, even when calendar-based schedules are used. Windows that span midnight become two separate windows for calendar schedules. After the policy is created, the initial backups may appear as though two backups have run within the same window.
If the calendar schedule indicates that today is a run day, the backup runs once during any window that is open."

If i have selected the retries option then?

It will only retry on the 30th, withing the part of the backup window that is open on the 30th.

It will on retry if the backup on the 29th was unsuccessful for some reason.

if i havent checked 30th,Then also backup will try to run?

mph999's picture

Yes, if the backup window is open, and retry after runtime is set, but ONLY if it failed on the 29th.
