  • 1.  Can client communicate with server via IP

    Posted Oct 28, 2013 01:45 PM

We have a particular subnet that is heavily restricted and there isn't any dns.  What do I need to edit to get the client to communicate to the SEPM via IP?  I edited the sylink.xml file, but I wasn't sure what else was necessary.  Just changing the single file, didn't seem to be enough.

Can communicate via IP or name.

Manually editing of sylink is not recommeneded. if name does not work it will automatically try ip..

Where does Symantec store the IP for the SEPM?  The Sylink file only shows the name, and there's no dns to resolve the name.

You might be able to force it to use the SEPM servers IP by creating and editing a new Management Server list and applying this list to the clients in your restricted subnet.

Clients will need to be in a client group with inheritance turned off.

Thanks for the posts, everyone.  I ended up just editing the hosts file.  That seemed to be the easiest way to get it done.

    Hello,

you had to edit the Management Server List in the console, i.e. remove the hostname and add the IP, nothing else.
