  • 1.  Can an Endpoint Protection client work without Endpoint Manager installed?

We are running endpoint protection 11.0.6 on Windows 2008 R2 servers and an RDS Server (also 2008 R2).  All servers are VMs.  It was installed by an independant contractor a about 2 years ago.  Unfortunately he must have licensed it through his own company because we cannot track down our licenses for the product.

I am in the process of restaging the RDS server and cannot seem to find endpoint protection manager on any of the servers.  I believe that it is neccessary to deploy EP to ther RDS server.  I am assuming that the server with EPM was removed when we upgraded another server.  Is this possible?

Can my EP clients continue to run and update definitions if EPM is not installed somewhere on the network?  If no, is there a way to determine the EPM host from a client machine?  If the clients can run independantly, is there a way to determine my product key from a client machine (i.e. registry) so that I can re-install EPM?

I contacted Symantec support today and they could not retrieve our license info using our company name. The IC is no longer accessible to cooperate in resolving the licensing issue as well.

If you open a client and go to Help >> Troubleshooting it will show the SEPM name or IP the client is connected to.

BTW, 11.x did not require am actual license file.

If you don't have a SEPM, the clients will be unmanaged, which means they need to be configured individually in order to go out and update.

Thank you for the quick response.  I found it.  However, I don't have the login credentials.  Is there a default login used for the mgmt console?  If no, Is there a way to reset?

    To reset the administrator password

    1. Open Windows Explorer on the computer that runs Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.
    2. Locate the Drive:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Tools folder.
    3. Double-click resetpass.bat.
    4. The user name and password are reset to admin.
    5. Log on to Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager using admin for both the user name and the password, and change the password.
