Can the FSLRDR redirection area be on a different drive than Windows with Win7?

This issue has been solved. See solution.

I am currently using SWV 6.1.5114 under Windows Seven Home Premium.
Windows resides on the C: drive, as does the "Program Files" folder.

When I started using SWV 6.1.5114, I changed the FSLRDR path to, say, D:\FSLRDR, the way I was used to do from SVS. This way, I had been able to create compact snapshots of my windows drive, while keeping much of the application data separately. I knew that possibly newer application installations would not survive restoring an older snapshot - but main priority had always been compact windows snapshots (re-installing a few applications is acceptable compared to re-installing windows plus ALL applications from scratch)

Btw.: I always excluded D:\ from virtualization, but I don't think this adds to the problem.

But, alas, with SVW and D:\FSLRDR, I encountered strange capture problems: most setups would say they could'nt find "C:\Program Files" to install themselves into it, or issued a similar "directory not found" error during the setup. Only solutionn was to accept the standard C:\FSLRDR.
But now, C: grows with the layers, and I must export/delete/reimport ALL of my layers before each and every C: snapshot.

Since I cannot find any thread on this topic, I would like to ask: Is this issue known, and maybe solved with SP4? That would encourage me to re-install SWV.

Never saw this

I think there is a different problem in your setup, as the change path alway's works.
It is just a pointer
if you see a c:\program files error when the path is redirected, that points to a different problem.

Sorry that I didn't return

Sorry that I didn't return earlier.

As I was writing, I am using SWV unter W7 Home Premium. It is the 32bit version.

I can only repeat: I didn't manage to use any virtualized app successfully, until I finally omitted the fslrdr change parameter from the setup commandline. Then SWV worked similar to what I knew from SVS with XP.

I haven't tried again since, because I have some layers running and testing does consume quite some time. How sure are you about it's impossible what I say? Should I really try again?

Solved Layer redirect to a

Solved

Layer redirect to a different drive than C: works indeed. In my case, it was configured like this with SWV 6.1 SP4 6.2.1562, and after importing Layers, they worked fine.

They continue to work fine with SWV 6.1 SP6 MP1 6.3.2059, but I suspect that the command line switch to change the Layer redirect during installation now has been omitted.

Maybe my original issue came from two or more non Win7-ready freeware applications, which gave me this wrong impression. Since then, I install to a different folder than 'Program Files'.
