  • 1.  Can I be emailed when an upgrade is done?

    Posted Apr 25, 2013 08:43 AM

I am trying to upgrade a few computers from 11 to 12.1. I made an install package and setup the deployment to run from 00:01 to 12:59 for 7 days. So far I've only got about a 50% success rate for the upgrades. Is there a place where I can set things up to email me when a client is upgraded? I am also trying to find information on if an upgrade was attempted and if it wasn't successful why it wasn't.

    Thank you for any help.

There is no such option to email when a client is upgraded. You can set a "Client List Changed" alert

    Client list change alert

Changes to the clients trigger this type of notification. The types of changes that can trigger this notification include the addition, movement, name change, or deletion of a client. Additional possibilities are that a client's Unmanaged Detector status, client mode, or hardware changed.

    This could potentially help you.

If an upgrade fails, you can check the SEP_INST.log file created in %temp% directory as it will contain the info on why it failed.

    Hello Darren,

    I understand your requirements.

Currently, there is no option which would send you an email on successful installation. However these clients (if managed) would then report to the SEPM groups. Secondly, In case of unsuccessful installation I am not sure if the email strategy would work.

As of now this is by design.

You could any time create an IDEA / Enhancement Request which would be pushed to the Symantec Product Team:

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/node/add/idea

(Note: To access the above link, you may need to Login to SymAccount)

You could also check the IDEA section - https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/security/ideas

    Hope that helps!!

You could also make a script that checks against the list of computers that you are trying to install too and have it email you.  If you are familiar with powershell this can be done pretty easily.

Thanks, I haven't used PS though so it would likely be a big learning curve for me.

    Hi,

It's a good idea however at this point you will have to work on manually.

I would also suggest to create an idea.

Enhancement Request which would be pushed to the Symantec Product Team:
