Can I change location of symantec temp files

Created: 08 Jan 2013 • Updated: 10 Feb 2013 | 3 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

I have SEP11/SEPM11 Environment, and I am running out of C drive space on one of my client, and noticed that VirusDefs folder fills out so quickly due to latest def downloads i-e C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs .

my D drive has lot of room, is it possible to move VirusDefs location to D Drive ?.To move location I uninstalled SEP from C and then tried customised installation of SEP on D drive but its still dumping latest def on C: . ...thanks in advance

No it cannot be changed. It is hardcoded in SEP.

Hello,

It is not possible. These locations are hard coded to application.

This Thread is similar to the Threads below:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/moving-sep-121-virus-definition-location

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/virus-definition-location-0

The Definition folder could not be moved, however we could troubleshoot on what and why is Definition folder consuming high disk space.

Hope that helps!!

Hi,

It's not possible to change hard coded locations.

However in SEP 12.1 by default 3 definitions are stored on client machine & in SEP 12.1 only 1 defintion is stored on client machine.
