  • 1.  Can I register a licence in SMG some days before the start date?

    Posted Jun 13, 2016 10:39 AM

    Hi, I have four Symantec Messaging Gateway Servers v10.6.1-3  who are going to expire their license soon: [Brightmail] (ERROR:3297.2048198400): [10202] The AntiSpam license will expire in 8 days

    I have the new one, an enterprise suite license who has a Start Date of 22-JUN-16, and I'm trying to register it (https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.HOWTO47955.html) but the following error appears:

    Cannot register the specified license file.
    Unable to complete registration with Symantec. You may have specified an invalid license file. Please specify a valid license file. No more information

    Do I have to wait that day to register it? What is going to happen if the actual license expires in 21-JUN-16 and the other starts one day after (22-JUN-16)?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

    The Issue with activation you are experiencing is because these licenses are not active yet, for SMG you should be using still old licenses. You can choose to edit the license file right click > edit to determine start date > End date > and grace period if there is one on the expiring license as well as the new license.

    Hi Kimberly

    This is the "old" license:

    <name>Brightmail AntiSpam Content</name>
    <version>1.0</version>
    <start_date>2013-06-04</start_date>
    <end_date>2016-08-20</end_date>
    <count>1400</count>
    <warn_policy>1,120</warn_policy>
    <grace_policy>1,60</grace_policy>
    </key>
    <key>
    <name>AntiSpam Content</name>
    <version>1.0</version>
    <start_date>2013-06-04</start_date>
    <end_date>2016-08-20</end_date>
    <warn_policy>1,120</warn_policy>
    <grace_policy>1,60</grace_policy>
    </key>

    The value 1,60 in grace policy means 60 days after the end_date?

    Also, the new one have this values:

    <license_meter>PER-USER</license_meter>
    <license_type>MAINTENANCE</license_type>

    What they means?

    This the new one:

    <name>Brightmail AntiSpam Content</name>
    <version>1.0</version>
    <start_date>2016-06-22</start_date>
    <end_date>2019-08-20</end_date>
    <count>1400</count>
    <warn_policy>1,120</warn_policy>
    <grace_policy>1,60</grace_policy>
    <license_meter>PER-USER</license_meter>
    <license_type>MAINTENANCE</license_type>
    </key>
    <key>
    <name>AntiSpam Content</name>
    <version>1.0</version>
    <start_date>2016-06-22</start_date>
    <end_date>2019-08-20</end_date>
    <warn_policy>1,120</warn_policy>
    <grace_policy>1,60</grace_policy>
    <license_meter>PER-USER</license_meter>
    <license_type>MAINTENANCE</license_type>
    </key>

    Regards.
