  • 1.  Can I use old images with newer ghost

Hi all. I'm brand new to ghost. Some of the people I work with have some ghost images taken with older ghost software such as 7.5. I just bought and installed the Ghost 1.1 suite. Can I use the 1.1 suite to push the 7.5 images to the laptops I need to ghost? Or do I have to remake all the images using the new ghost software? Thanks in advance!

It should work just fine; there have been some internal improvements and extensions to the file format so some images aren't necessarily compatible the other way around (it's best not to take them with GSS1.1 and deploy with 7.5) but our intention is to keep all your images readable.

If you try this and it doesn't work, we need to know about that because it should.

    Ok - I have to ask ;-)

    What about Powerquest (pqi) images?

And yes I know you can somewhat do that by doing a virtual floppy and running that from the ghost console. We have some older images that are from the powerquest days and wanted to know if/when Ghost will treat, read and maybe write them?

They seem to be faster than ghost images.

If I remember correctly the consumer version of ghost can read them.

    I have to answer :)

    No (mostly)

You cannot deploy Powerquest images directly from the GSS console (apart from the workaround that you describe). GSS does include a standalone version of the Powerquest software, so you can access your old images manually. If you really need to use those old images with the GSS console, your best bet is to manually deploy the .pqi image to a (virtual/real) machine, and then use Ghost to create a .gho.

The consumer version of Ghost can read pqi images because it is a rebranded/updated version of the powerquest software. It has little to do with GSS.
