Can LTO4 or LTO5 tapes be used in a HP MSL4048?

Created: 17 Apr 2012 | 5 comments

I have a HP MSL4048 (product ID - MSL G3 Series) and we are currently using LTO3 tapes.  Does anyone know if this tape library can read LTO4 or LTO5 tapes?

Thanks for the link, but what I'm trying to determine is where the HP MSL4048 stands on that matrix.

It all depends on the drives in your MSL4048.

The MSL4048 can be deliverd with LTO2/LTO3/LTO4 and LTO5 drives.

Find out the drive you are using. It must be an LTO3 or LTO4 drive, as LTO can write 1 generation back.

Hi,

Refer to the official HP document about this:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c02532755/c02532755.pdf

Check your product # against what is shown and you will know what drives you have, and what you will need to upgrade too if you ever wanted to do this.

LTO reads 2 generations back as well...

Thanks!
