  • 1.  Can we re-use the same database if we create a new server?

Hi, can someone tell me if we can use the same SQL database from an old version (12.1.1101.401) on a new 12.1.4 box without losing any of the history or logs?  For PCI requirements, we need to keep 365 days worth of data and we don't want to lose any of this data.

Will a new install of 12.1.4 reinitialize the existing database if we choose to use it?

    Thanks,

    Dan

Here is the document which says that

    Restoring the database

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO81322
"You must restore the database using the same version of Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager that you used to back up the database. "

You should use the  same old one, you cannot use the old backup with the new sepm 12.1.4 if you try to do that it will say 'schema miss match'

same version should be used for backup and restore.

You would first need to upgrade the old 12.1 RU1 SEPM (if you still have it) -> upgrade to RU4 (this would update the db schema) and then backup the DB and by disaster recovery move to new SEPM server.
