Can we restore data from a tape written by HP Data Protector  using NetBackup

Don't think you can.

The only alient format Netbackup can import is BackupExec as I know off.

Assumption is the mother of all mess ups.

Read the 1st two paragraphs

Read the 1st two paragraphs on page 7. This is a Media Management tool, not an actual backup product.

"It provides tracking and management of offline storage media.."
"It tracks all media, whether online, offline or offsite, ensuring vital data is never lost."
"Media Operations monitors media quality and preloads libraries with the required number of scratch tapes."

I don't see info about media compability. Is'a about tracking media.

• Extended the copy support for the Inline Tape copy feature of NetBackup for the media information.
• The copy specification obtained from NetBackup is updated with the media information associated with that copy.
