  • 1.  Can you have mixed update modes?

I work at a school and we have all of our computers in one group that gets updates from the Server.  We have purchased laptops for teachers to take back and forth from school to home, but there is no way for them to login to our school server for updates when they are at home.  Is there a way for a client to have the ability to use the Update Server when they are at school, and then Live Update when they are at home?

you can use the location policy to get liveupdate when they are not connected to update server.
    You can follow this document.

How to configure mobile computers to automatically download virus definitions when disconnected from the Symantec Endpoint Protection Management console

Thank you so much for your response.  Hopefully I followed the instructions correctly and they will update off-site.

This is driving me nuts, if you can help, you'll make an old man happy.

Some of the downloaded updates on my SEP Manager are not current - I am geeting this information from SEPM console, using "Show Liveupdate Downloads".  The information is:

Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Content Catalog 11.0   2010-1-21 Rev.381
    Antivirus and Antispyware Definitions WIN64 11.0                          2010-05-03, Rev.2
    Antivirus and Antispyware Definitions WIN32 11.0                          2010-05-03, Rev.2
    Decomposer WIN32 and WIN64 11.0                                               2008-02-17, Rev. 000
    Truscan Scan Engine WIN 64 11.0                                                    2008-08-20, Rev. 001
    Truscan Scan Data  11.0                                                                      2008-08-20, Rev. 001

    Truscan Whitelist WIN 64 11.0                                                            2010-02-19, Rev. 018
    Truscan Commercial Application List  WIN64 11.0                        2010-02-19, Rev. 018
    Intrusion Prevention Signatures WIN32 11.0                                   2010-04-21, REV. 001
    Intrusion Prevention Signatures WIN64 11.0                                   2010-04-21, REV. 001
    Submission Control Signatures 11.0                                                2009-11-11, REV. 048

The inital installation was 11.0.5 on 2-20-2010, has since been upgraded to 11.0.6.

The clients all show that the definitions are up to date, but Proactive Threat Protection shows a definition of February 19, and Network Threat Protection shows a definition date of April 21.  Another clue is that I can have a client go straight to Symantec liveupdate site and get current definitions on all.

Can anyone tell me if I have a problem, and if I do, how can I correct?

    Thank you,
    Randy D
