Can you use Altiris Monitor solution to monitor a specific process?
This issue has been solved. See solution.
I've been working to set up a WMI metric in an attempt to monitor a specific process - not generated by a service. It's a pretty simple scenario:
A server gets restarted...there are 2 processes/applications that are set to launch on startup. We want to use Monitor solution to verify they're up and running.
Now, monitoring for services, NT events, etc...that's pretty straightforward. But how does one go about monitoring a process? I've been trying with a WMI metric, but so far haven't been successful.
Anyone done this or have any ideas? Maybe i'm missing something simple...
Are you using 6 or 7
Can you tell me which version you are using? Since a lot things changed with monitoring in NS/SMS 7.

Sorry...forgot to put that in the original post. Still using 6 at this point. Thanks!

Application detection
In 6 you would start with defining application detection, then build your monitoring pack around that. In 7 however a process metric option is added. The new 7 monitoring has a lot of new options and easier to configure. Maybe time to consider to switch to 7?

NS7
We've been testing, but we have a lot to transition and are in no rush. We also plan on implementing Service Desk 7 at the same time. Believe me, I know there's a lot of features we're looking forward to in 7, but it's been off and on buggy...
When you talk about defining the application detection, where are you talking about doing that - in Metering? I've been trying with a metric in Monitor solution. I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at, so i'm sure i'm missing something!
