Cannot deploy client to 'Unknown Computer'

waukschun's picture

We have a Windows XP Pro computer in our office that comes up as 'Unknown Computer' when I look for unmanaged computers. When I deploy the client it fails. To test the SEP Manager, I removed Endpoint from my machine then searched and  it came back as 'Unmanaged Computer' and I was able to install Endpoint fine. Is there a reason Unknown Computers cant get the client? How do I make them known to SEPM? Thanks.

After MR3

We started having this exact same problem after we installed MR3.  We are now at MR4 MP1 and still have this problem.  Everything worked fine on all releases of MR2.   Since MR3, though, we have not been able to get this feature to work.  All clients will be detected as "unknown computer" and it will not allow us to install the software.

There have been a few reports

There have been a few reports of the find unmanaged computers not working well with Windows XP SP3. Can I suggest you guys try to deploy using some other method. Maybe the Migration Deployment Wizard?

Cheers,
Grant
