  • 1.  Cannot add Domain to SEPM

    Posted Nov 29, 2010 05:09 PM

I recently layed down a new install of SEPM (11.0.6005.562) to replace the previous installation that I could no longer log into (db resides on a remote MS SQL server and the password change bat file apparently wasn't the correct method of changing the password).

With this new installation I initially changed the default domain name followed by changing it back to "Default" so that I could add a domain matching our company name.  I then deleted this domain since it auto-generated a Domain ID.  I successfully added the domain, again, with the old Domain ID of the previous installation (as obtained from the Client log messages in SEPM).  The new domain added successfully however I had some doubt about the Domain ID that I entered since it was in lower-case.  I then deleted the domain and tried to re-add it with the Domain ID in all upper-case.

Any subsequent attempts at trying to re-add this domain results in:

Failed to connect to the directory server. [0x88020000]

This only occurs when I attempt to add a domain with a Domain ID.

Does anyone know details to the error message, why it's occuring, and a solution to successfully add it with the old Domain ID?

    Thank you in advance,

    ~Pete

The steps prescribed for Disaster Recovery Without A Database Backup fail to work if a database is present with the same Domain ID already there.  That portion of the document presumes an empty database to be available.

Would like to suggest to wait for a day and then try to re-create the domain again.

If the steps in the document are followed carefully and in the order provided recovery will be successful and error free.
