if the host is unix or linux insert in bp.conf file (SERVER = your_media_server).
or use a GUI, host prob -> clients -> rigth click ->prob, servers -> add in additional server the media server tha you use for backup.

yes the NB 7.0.1 on unix server and the host is linux ... sorry what you mean by "add in additional server the media server tha you use for backup." ,as the the client is assigned to media and connected
the issue is that i have the message error bpbrm & cannot connect to client (58)
and i can ping to to the server and it reply correctly
As mentioned does the clients /usr/openv/netbackup/bp.conf have a SERVER = entry with the media server name? If not, then add it.
is bpcd listening on the client
netstat -a | grep -i bpcd
follow this steps:
vi /usr/openv/netbackup/bp.conf
SERVER = your_media_server.
Are you have a firewall?

Status 58 is normally caused when client cannot resolve server's IP address to a hostname that appears in client's SERVER list in bp.conf.
This is normally fixed by adding /etc/hosts entry on the client or else by ensuring DNS reverse lookup is enabled (DNS is not always enabled on Unix clients).
Please test as follows:
Create /usr/openv/netbackup/logs/bpcd folder on the client.
Run the following from cmd on master (and media server if they are different):
bptestbpcd -client <client-name> -debug -verbose.
(Not sure which OS on your master/media server - on Windows, command is in <Install-path>\netbackup\bin\admincmd ; Unix/Linux - /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd)
You will see server's incoming IP address in client's bpcd log file, followed by client's attempt to resolve the IP address to hostname and then compared with SERVER entries.
If you need assistance with reading bptestbpcd output, please post output of command as well as client's bpcd log. Please rename log file to bpcd.txt and post as attachment.

Hi,
Error 58 results when master server is not able to communicate with client. As Marrianne said , kindly check that SERVER entry in bp.conf file of client server.Normally error 58 is fixed by host entry checking.
Kindly look the technote.

if client is window server plz check netbackup client service running properly. it should nt be in hung state.
hi,
how can i check a firewall from the side of NetBackup unix os 7.0.1and Client win or unix
This issue has been going on for at least 14 days (since your original post).
I would suggest you open a call with Symantec on this. They will then prove this is either a networking issue (most likely) or a configuration issue where you have not entered the correct media server as a SERVER on your client.
You can't.
The firwall (either hardware or software ) is part of the network.
NetBackup 'uses' the network, it does NOT control the network. You cannot run admin commands on the network from 'within' NetBackup.
Look at it this way ...
If you uninstall NetBackup (DO NOT DO THIS, JUST AN EXAMPLE ) what are you left with ... I think ..
Operating system
Tape devices (or disk)
Network
... so it is clear now, that these x3 things need to be investigated separately from NBU.
However, for NBU to work between client/ media server you need ...
The client needs bi-directional connection via PBX (port 1556) with the media server.
(Note, iof connection fails on PBX, it will try and use 13724, but this isn't required if PBX connection is working)
Martin
be sure the master, media and client are insert to hosts files for three.
1556, 13720, 13782 ports open on firewall

...
The vnetd process is still listening on TCP port 13724 but also registered with PBX. Connections that previously contacted the vnetd port will now prefer to use PBX port 1556. If the PBX port is unreachable, then the vnetd port will be used. Note that the Java console to master server uses the vnetd port for connection to bpjobd and the PBX port for all other connections. For efficiency, internal sockets on the loopback interface to processes on the same host use the daemon ports instead of passing through vnetd or PBX
Martin
bptestbpcd will test port comms as well as hostname lookup.
Please see my post from 8 May on how to test:
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/can...
IMPORTANT is to have bpcd log on the client. That is the only way to check client's ability to resolve IP and hostname and also ability to connect back using which TCP/IP port.
You need to do this test from all media servers that can backup this client.
Master server as well if you want to backup ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES or do database backups.

plz post o/p of below command (run on master server)
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/./bppllist <policy> -L
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/./bptestbpcd -client <client_name> -verbose -debug
If this post has helped you, please vote or mark as solution.
Before break-up, make sure you have a good backup..... ;-)

Please post bpcd log as well. Extract from my previous post:
Is LS1-EN the client name that is used in the policy?
Is IP address 10.200.200.12 correct for client LS1-EN?
Have you checked/verified that Windows firewall is disabled on the client? Check in Control Panel on the client.

You DO NOT need all of those ports.
Pre-7.0.1 will use vnetd (13724) only.
As from 7.0.1, PBX (1556) will be tried first. If that fails, vnetd will be tried.
Port requirements are documented in this TN: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH136090
The bpcd log above is from a successful connection.
If no log is created on other clients, chances are that ports are blocked.

Hi,
so
1-for " The bpcd log above is from a successful connection. " we donot need to open any ports ....
2- and for " If no log is created on other clients, chances are that ports are blocked ." what ports i should open in firwall is it (13724) only.??
As per my previous post - it depends on the NBU version in your environment.
See the TN for details.
I normally recommend to request BOTH 1556 and 13724 (bi-directional).
Please have a good look at the TN for Master <-> client and Media server <-> client comms.

Kindly confirm ..
I can see total 7 client you added in single policy so, for which client you are facing the issue ?
Also let us know what about the connectivity status for other remaining client from same policy ?
If this post has helped you, please vote or mark as solution.
Before break-up, make sure you have a good backup..... ;-)
OK - you have lots of requests so i will add my input and take things back to basics first.
I am assuming that the backups for most of your clients fail except for the one so try this:
1. on each client run "bpps -a" to ensure that NetBackup is actually installed and its service are running.
2. If service are not running then run /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bp.start_all to fire it up. If there is no /usr/openv/netbackup directory then it is not installed!
3. It looks like the Master and Media Servers can ping each client so make sure the client can ping the Master and Media Servers (by short name - FQDN can cause issues)
4. Check on each client that its /usr/openv/netbackup/bp.conf file has the SERVER = Master first in its list followed by any Media Servers and also that it has its own CLIENT name shown correctly
Hope fully these 4 things can be done in just a couple of minutes (at least on one cleint as an initial test) and depending on the results move on to more advanced things
