I have two servers running Windows 2k8 Server (6.0.6001) and several client machines running the same version of Windows XP Pro SP3. One server is setup to create an image of all the other machines every evening. Prior to upgrading to version 11.5.1.2266 I was using version 11.5.0.2113 with no problems. Since this network does not have internet access, I download the installation package of the latest version on GSS and did an in-place upgrade. Ever since then I have been unable to create an image of the other Windows 2k8 Server machine, though all the Windows XP Pro machines get an image just fine. At first I thought maybe I needed to update the ghost client, so I removed it an reinstalled it from the Ghost Console. This did not rectify the problem. Checking the event log shows that at the exact same time the image fails (it goes for about an hour of a two hour job) and the GHOSTERR.TXT file get created, two events with a source of VSS get created:

Well I decided to uninstall

Well I decided to uninstall everything and then reinstalled version 11.5.0.2113 and everything works fine again. Not sure what's up with the latest version.

Hi there,

Were you trying to do a hot image of that machine (by checking "Volume Snapshot")? That's the only reason I know that Volume Shadow Copy would be invoked. Hot imaging is not supported for server operating systems.

Yes, I was doing hot images before upgrading and then it stopped working. Now it seems even downgrading back to version 11.5.0.2113 is no longer functioning. According to this Windows 2k8 is supported for all three applications (server console, console client, and imagin tools);

Here's more documentation that says version 2.5 can be used on server OS's:

Under the heading "Solution" it says:

Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 does give you the ability to manage a server OS as a client. For more information about how to obtain a server license for use on a server operating system, see the document How to obtain server licenses for Ghost Solution Suite 2.5.

I need to find a solution to this problem as it is still persisting to this day.
