  • 1.  cannot execute refreshy inventory task

    Posted Dec 21, 2006 05:41 PM
I cannot populate the default machine group (or any group), because i cannot execute the refresh inventory task. I've tried a reinstall and everthing, when i try to execute the task i get the error,

Task execution not possible - Task definition is not valid
Target of the task has no client machines.

I can't seem to make a a valid refresh inventory task, and the refresh inventory task that shows in the task menu by defualt also doesn't work. I;ve updated to the latest driver for my network card, still nothing. i don't understand why the task won't execute.

computer is a dell 2 gightz p4 with 2 gigs of ram running windows server 2003 SP1, and an intel pro 1000 MT network card. It's a member sever of a domain.

    Hi,

The first error indicates that there are no machines in the folder you selected for the task. If you selected the 'Default' folder, this means there were no clients known to the Console.

How did you install the client? From your second post, seems the second Console found machines with the client already installed.

Did you do a manual install of client (using CD)? In this case, you need to give the computer name of the Console machine so that clients will only connect to that Console. If you leave it blank, it will connect to the first Console it finds.

One possibility is that first Console did not find any clients due to a firewall or something, but since you haven't given the name of the Console, they connected to the second Console you installed. Could this be a possibility?
