Deployment Solution

  • 1.  Cannot find the file

I am working on using boot disks. I am at the point where I can get the pc to boot off the disk and it goes and comes to what should be the correct prompt of L. In the Altiris deployment server options, on the drive mapping tab, it is L there as well so it should be correct I am hoping. So, to recap, the disk boots and I get the altiris background and a cmd window for the DS WinPE2 x86 comes up.

At the prompt, I try to type in "rdeploy" ( no quotes of course) and I get a message that says: The system cannot find the file l:\rdeploy.exe.

If I type in DIR at the L prompt, I get a long display which does show the rdeploy file and rdeploy.exe.

It has to be something pretty small I think but I am not sure what. Is it still the letter? Should it be something different for 6.9 sp5? Our older ds servers use F and L and work ok.

    Have you tried, L:\RDeploy\Windows\RDeploy.exe ?

It might be that the rdeploy in the root of the express share is the 16-bit version.

I actually found that I just had to navigate further than I had to before. I could use F or L and it did not matter.

Hi, so where was the file?

I wonder if the drive mappings weren't to the same locations as the previous versions of DS for him.

For example:  If F: was originally mapped to \\dsserver\express\rdeploy\windows\x64 and in the new version is was mapped to \\dsserver\express\rdeploy\windows, you'll have a similar problem and have to do exactly what he said, navigate further down the structure.

    Hi,

Just for clarify for others reading this post, the solution was to execute the correct version of RDeploy for WinPE -with Altiris you have versions for execution within DOS, Linux and WinPE.

The file  rdeploy.exe in the root of the express share was the 16-bit DOS version, which WinPE will report as not existing if execution is attempted.

So to get Rdeploy working, the schwnede had to locate the correct version under .\express\rdeploy\windows
