Cannot import jobs in 6.9 SP3
Updated: 25 Jun 2010 | 6 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.
I have a new 6.9 server set up and I'm trying to move some jobs over from our 6.8 server. I exported the folder that the jobs are in but when I import them, I only get the folder itself on the 6.9 server. I tried exporting just one job as well and it looks like the import goes through fine but the job never shows up.
I'm wondering if it has anything to do with how I moved the database over. I just detached from both databases, copied the database files from the 6.8 server to the 6.9 server and then re-attached.
All of the jobs that were already in the database seem to be working fine but the jobs I'm trying to move over now are new so they weren't in the database when I moved it over.

Hi,
There are a couple of things which strike me about this,
Copying a 6.8 database to a 6.9 server is not supported. There are tables which 6.9 will expect to be there, that aren't present in a 6.8DB
Starting from the beginning, if I want to migrate between servers of drastically different versions I would do the following,
In a VM, install DS at your current production version (DS 6.8 SP?)
This doesn't take long -perhaps 2-3hours. And it would give you a database suitable for copying over to a fresh install of the DS6.9 box. If you didn't want to carry over all the gunk, you could reliably export the job sets you want from your VM and import these onto your new box.
That's a lot to absorb, so fire away at any points that I've not explained too well,
Kind Regards,
Ian./

Only export and import jobs!!
The best thing is to export all jobs from the 6.8 installation and import it in 6.9!
If you are installing 6.9 SP3 or a higher version use the axbinfix.exe Utility from KB 48574
to migrate jobs from a 6.8 installation!!
Hope this helps!!

Fabulous KB Johannes! This
Fabulous KB Johannes! This will indeed fix the import, and will probably be enough to get a fresh DS6.9 install on the move.
If you still intend on using the DS6.8 database on the 6.9 server, you'll have to do a reinstall DS6.9 however so it can take up the 6.8 database and make the necessary modifications to upgrade it to 6.9SP3. Just moving the database from a 6.8 to 6.9 server isn't enough.

Nice! Thanks, that solved my problem.
Actually, I fogot that one of the steps I did was to reinstall DS 6.9 after I moved the DB over.
Thanks again.
Stu.
