Bacula is an open-source netbackup software.

Would someone help me to install Bacula. I have tried installing it but it was unsuccessful. When I removed SEP, the said software was installed successfully. Is there any compatibility issue for both softwares? Please advise.

    Attached is the installer.

    win32bacula-5.0.0.zip   9.08 MB 1 version

Hello! Only SEP RU5 was installed. Bacula is not using any DB. It uses ports 9101 and 9102. I have also created a case with Symantec and currently handling the case. As of today, we alreayd done the following:

    1. Added c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bacula in the centralized exemptions under Tamper Protection.
    2. Added c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bacula in the in the centralized exemptions under Security Risks.
    3. Disbaled SEP by typing smc -stop in Run.
    4. Uninstall Network Threat Protection.
    5. Created Firewall Policy which allow the bacula-fd.exe (exe of Bacula).
    6. Disabled AntiVirus and AntiSpyware Scanning.

    Unfortunately, Bacula cannot be installed.

In the event viewer under Application logs, Bacula log was generated.
    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: Bacula
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 0
    Date:  2/3/2010
    Time:  2:55:51 PM
    User:  N/A
    Computer: HO10B117
    Description:
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( Bacula ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event:

Bacula ERROR: , bacula-fd: ERROR TERMINATION at /home/kern/bacula/k/bacula/src/lib/lex.c:642
Config error: Cannot open included config file director_name@: No such file or directory

                : line 26, col 25 of file C:\Program Files\Bacula\bacula-fd.conf
      Name = @director_name@

Any idea? Have you tried installing it? I am using Windows XP SP3.

Is it a .NET based application?

If yes then install MR4 MP2 and see if you are able to install SEP

or Uninstall SEP , install Bacula and then try to install SEP

Does it run in the Services? There should be a cassette tape icon on your notification bar.

Have you tried standalone installer of symantec? which is without policy. I think thats the reason why bacula is block and its services is not running.

    1. Uninstall your existing symantec with policy.
    2. Install standalone installer of symantec, without policy.
    3. install bacula

Hello! I have the 3 components installed since we are using Application and device control including the firewall. Maybe its our policy causing it to terminate. BTW, thansk for the help.

Hello! I agreed on you. It was running on a standalone installer. Maybe its on our policy. I will disable it one by one for isolation. Thanks!

I have successfully installed Bacula by adding bacula-fd.exe in the Centralized exemptions under Security risk.

    Thanks for your suggestions.
