Cannot install SEP 12.1.3 on clean install of Windows 8.1 (final version, not beta).

    Looks to be the same rollback issue that I was having with Windows 8.

    It also seems to have killed Windows Defender in the process so now I have no protection at all.  Again.

    Please do not install 12.1 on Windows 8.1 Blue for the moment.  We are working to support this release with SEP 12.1 RU4, due later this year and will have a beta release available soon, which will work and fix the bugs we are currently seeing.

    No need to ask me not to install it - as I can't!?!?! :)

    What would you suggest that I DO install?

    12.1 is not supported on 8.1 so SEP is not an option at this time. RU4 is due out later this year, which should support it:

    I'm not sure what other AV products are currently supported on 8.1

    p.s. that thread, which I read, was referring to the 'preview', this thread is referring to the final release version of 8.1.

    if sep 12.1.3 is  not supported for 8.1 preview  how can the same product will work on final release :)

    12.1.3 is not compatible. 12.1.4 will be released in few weeks you can install that without any issues. subscripe to the post by paul, any update u will get an email

    Thanks gents, very disappointed, but at least I know to use another product. Irritating with a single PC, but downright disruptive when you have 13 licences that you can't use...

    Update

    SEP 12.1.2015.2015 Installed flawlessly on Windows 8.1 RTM (Final) and Preview (Beta) versions. You must disable Windows Defender and Windows Firewall to install properly.

    I would suggest you to PM Paul Murgatroyd for this.

    Currently, the SEP 12.1.4 is under BETA and would be released soon. There is no official release date provided as yet.

    For Installing SEP On Windows 8.1 RTM and Upgrade

    Update

    SEP 12.1.2015.2015 Installed flawlessly on Windows 8.1 RTM (Final) and Preview (Beta) versions. You must disable Windows Defender and Windows Firewall to install properly.

    Update 2:

    Note: Do not run or let Windows Update itself.

    For those who cannot wait (for security reasons) for SEP 12.1.4 to come out, follow the above instructions if you are doing a clean install. Works with SEP 12.1.3.

    For those who did the free upgrade from the windows store, remove the following Windows Updates before installing SEP: KB2882351 and KB2891214. Be sure that you have disable Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. You could reinstall those updates back if you wish.

    Good info thanks.  I am not in a position to test if this works or not so if anyone else tries disabling both Defender and also this new suggestion of disabling Windows Firewall it would be great to hear how you go.

    For me disabling both Windows Firewall and Windows Defender successfully installed 12.1.4013.4013 on Windows 8.1 / Surface Pro 2. With Firewall/Defender enabled I got continuous rollbacks (and this was reflected in SEPM)
