  • 1.  Cannot open any Outlook attachments with A/V enabled in SEP client

    Hello,

I am in the process of migrating from SAV 10.2 Corporate to SEPM.  I've migrated about 15 clients successfully.  I have one client that cannot open any attachements using Outlook 2002.  I discovered that disabling the Antivirus / Antispyware will then allow the user to open attachments.  So I reenabled then went to 'Change Settings' and then to the OUtlook Auto Protect TAB and edited the file types to remove .pdf, .doc. etc.  But in doing this I won't be scanning these extenstions now correct?
My question is why might this have happened.  All my other clients are fine.  I found some fixes for a simliar issues here (below) but Ia m running MR4 and this is supposed to be resovled in MR2.

I'm not sure how to proceed.  I thought about reinstalling the SEP client but this appears challenging. Can I simply uninstall it from Add / Remove programs?  The can I use 'Find Unmanaged computers' in SEPM and push the clietn back down and see.

    THanks for any info-

As a workaround you can disable the AntiVirus Outlook plug-in. The location will vary depending on which Office suite you are using. In this example we will be using the path in Office XP:

In Outlook click Tools > Options.
    Click Other tab.
Under General section click Advanced Options.
    Click Add-In Manager.
    Uncheck Symantec Antivirus Outlook Protection.
    Click OK.
    Click OK.
    Click OK.

Thanks for the info.  That is good to know but I need to be scanning these file types therefore I cannot disable for very long.  Anyone else seen this or have any recommendations?

    Thanks

What service pack of Office XP/2002 are you running? I just ran into this exact issue with the same Office version. Turns out it didnt have the latest Office Service Pack, SP3. After I installed that attachments opened up without any issues and with Outlook auto-protect enabled.
