Cannot Open SEP Client, Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime

We cannot open the Symantec EndPoint (SEP) client icon located in the right corner of the task bar on one of our servers. When we double click the SEP client icon, a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime tab appears in the task bar, and on the desk top, there is a blank horizontal bar. The tab in the task bar, and the horizontal bar on the desktop will appear again each time we try to open SEP client.

After restart of the server, all the Microsoft Visual C++ tabs in the task bar, and the blank horizontal bars on the desktop will go away.  SEP client is back to normal, i.e. we can open the SEP client.

It is about the 3rd time this is happening in the last eight months. How can this problem be prevented in the future?

The version of our SEP client is version 11.0.5002.333. Our server is running Windows Server 2003 R2, Standard x64 Edition, Service Pack 2.

I would try uninstalling and

I would try uninstalling and reinstalling the client. While you are at it, you might consider upgrading to the lasted version, RU6 MP2. Note that it is recommened to upgrade to RU6 before installing the MP2 version.

Migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.6200 (RU6 MP2)

Thanks for your quick

Thanks for your quick response, Thomas.  We can follow up with your suggestion.

(Just somewhat puzzled as to why our other servers and computers in the network do not have this problem, except this one.)

If you can capture FULL dump

If you can capture FULL dump and work with symantec support it would be better. We might have seen similar issue like yours or if not we will work to fix in the next version (if symantec components are responsible).
