Cannot put EV manully in backup mode

For some reason I cannot put EV manually in backup mode or unclear it. I am having backup issue so I tried it manually and it did not work. Thanks

can you ping that machine correctly and does it resolve without issue?
also does the machine have firewall enabled?
Are you doing this from the server itself? Which version of EV, and on which operating system ?

In addition to what Alex said...
Looks like you have a single server environment and that you are doing this locally...can you confirm?
If not try the local console.
Where we have Storage Service ID %1 I would expect a GUID of the storage service. The storage service GUID in the database should match that on the services registry key of the local machine for the storage service.
Can you run the following in SQL:
Use EnterpriseVaultDirectory
SELECT * from StorageServiceEntry
and post the results.
Also go to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EnterpriseVaultStorageService
string ImagePath
and post the value
How do the services look under 'services' when you access the EV console - are they showing 'error' or 'hosted'
Anything happen to trigger this? i.e Server move, Building blocks failover, DR etc?
