cannot re-boot after un-installing Chost client

After removing the Ghost client using add-remove programs from the Control Panel, I get the following error on re-boot:

"Cannot find Ginastub.dll, contact the system administrator or re-install the file."

Cannot boot in the safe mode either.
Tried to locate the missing file on the GSS 2.0 disk with no luck, so it must be located in a cab file.

Anyone out there have similar problem? if so, how can it be fixed?

Thanks

Hi Mike

For the short answer, boot in safe mode (F8 during startup), and edit the gina registry to point to the standard gina (typically):

Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\
Value: GinaDLL
Data: C:\WINNT\System32\msgina.dll

Also, I believe you can delete this value/data pair entirely, and windows will use the standard gina by default.

There are also some longer and more complex answers, which could come into play if you have other products installed which rely on gina chaining:

Thanks for the quick response.

Un-fortunately my machine wouldn't even boot into the Safe mode, so I booted the machine with the Ultimate Boot CD and was able to edit the registry with a copy og a Ginastub.dll I found through Google.

Works okay now.

I was quite suprised to see all the posts about the FakeGina.dll. I had no clue they existed.
