Cannot recall a previous version of a placeholder shortcut using VSS

I have VSS running on my Windows 2008 fileserver. I also have archived many files on the fileserver using Symantec Enterprise Vault v 8.0. My issue is that I can recall previous versions of files but I cannot recall previous versions of placeholders shortcuts. When I try and do this I get the error "the remote storage service was not able to recall the file"

Any ideas?

Have you enabled pass-throug

Have you enabled pass-throug recall (v8 SP1 onwards). That should allow you to recall from VSS. (the reason you can't normally is that VSS is a effectively a read-only volume. Normal recall methods require the archive file to be restored back to the folder where the placeholder is. on a read-only volume you can not do that).

Hi Darren, Unfortunatley

Hi Darren,

Unfortunatley we're not on SP1 yet. We backup to tape so in the instance where someone deletes a stub then I can restore from tape. I will enable pass-through when we upgrade to SP1.

thanks for your advice.
