  • 1.  Cannot See Ghost Clients on Console Server Anywhere

We are running Ghost 11 Enterprise Edition. We are using this in a school setting. Clients are Dell Pc's running XP SP2. For the most part this works fine. However, in a class room of 28 computers, all the exact same hardware, it doesn't see all of them. Now, it will do the remote client install fine. But, when look in the inventory, it's not there. Ghost only see's the missing computers if I choose to do a remote client install. I have deleted the cert and let it find it and the clients say they are pointing to the correct server. They are on the same subnet as well. We are really hitting our heads against the wall. Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Greg,

At the point where the Console can't detect the 28 computers from one class room, can the Console still find new Ghost clients from other class rooms? Can you please do the check and let us know?

    Regards,
    Jenny

I presume the clients are showing as connected to the console - they have an orange tray icon applet showing "managed by XXXX" if you hover the mouse over it, rather than an icon with a red X showing "looking for XXX" if you hover the mouse over it.

If the clients are showing connected at their end but not showing in the console, and they are Dells, what model of Dell? Dell GX270s have a manufacturing issue which results in many GX270's having identical BIOS IDs and even serial numbers, and this causes the GSS2 console to misidentify them.

We do have a development fix for this, which you can get from technical support (or by emailing me at nigel dot bree at gmail dot com).

    Jenny,
The console can see most of the classroom. It's just a few, like 4, that it will not see. But, all 28 computers are the exact same hardware. And, the console with do the remote install just fine. But, when it comes to adding them to a machine group, they cannot be seen. They are not under network, default or anything. We are seeing this in a couple of our classrooms.

    Nigel,
You are correct. The clients are showing connected to the console with the correct ip address. Very funny you should be so correct, they are the Dell GX270's. We also have some GX280's. Your help is greatly appreciated. I will send you an email as well.
